چکیده

The thermal insulation properties of barrier coatings (TBCs) can be significantly improved with increasing the coating thickness. However, due to weak bonding high-thickness TBCs, low reliability and short lifetime greatly limits their application under some severe operating conditions. In this study, a novel high-efficiency synchronous dual powder feeding method is used deposit series gradient NiCoCrAlY/YSZ millimeter level tensile strengths residual stress state are evaluated in order explore effect thickness on strength coatings. results suggested that, micro-convex structure at “GC/TC” interface inside “GC” layer, 1000-μm-thickness TBCs 4:6 2:8 hybrid ratios over 44 MPa compared common TBCs. fracture position gradually shifts from NiCoCrAlY bond coat transition zone finally YSZ top owing different concentrations. After cycling tests, exhibits higher life. Some coarse cracks initiate propagate bottom region which mainly expansion mismatch that failure between “BC” layer substrate.

On the delamination of thermal barrier coatings in a thermal gradient

Thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems are susceptible to delamination failures in the presence of a large thermal gradient. These failures, which occur within the TBC layer, are very different in character from those associated with the thermally grown oxide. Three possible causes of internal delamination are analyzed. In all cases, the thermomechanical properties of the TBC are allowed to vary...

Microstructural investigations of EBPVD thermal barrier coatings

This paper deals with the morphology, constitutive phases and fine microstructures of some EBPVD processed yttria partially stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coatings. This study has been performed by X-ray diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. It was shown that the coatings studied were constituted of a single metastable tetragonal t' phase, as expected if one refers...

Thermophysical properties of thermal barrier coatings

Thin layers of thermal barrier coating (TBCs) are applied to metallic components of heat engines to reduce metal temperatures and to provide environmental protection. This results in increased engine efficiency and prolonged operational life. Of special current interest is the use of TBCs in aircraft engines. The TBCs, often yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), are deposited on nickel or cobalt-ba...

Delamination of multilayer thermal barrier coatings

Multilayer thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) on superalloy substrates are comprised of an intermetallic bond coat, a thermally grown oxide (TGO) layer, and a porous zirconia top coat that provides thermal protection. The TGO attains a thickness of 1±10 lm prior to failure, while the bond coat and zirconia layer are each about 50±100 lm thick. The preferred method for manufacturing TBCs comprises ...

Microwave Drilling of Ceramic Thermal-Barrier Coatings

The microwave drill is a novel process for creating shaped holes in nonconductive materials. Its inherent material selectivity makes the microwave drill ideally suited for the controlled removal of ceramic coatings from underlying metallic substrates. In this paper, it is shown that the microwave drill process can drill through ceramic thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) to uncover an array of simu...
